Our mission at Friday Services is to bring the right people to the right job every time. One of the ways our staffing agency works toward this goal is by ensuring that our client companies and candidates are a good match both logistically and in terms of company culture. This is where the talents of our professional recruiter Rick Guthrie come in.
“I work primarily with clients that desire to hire individuals with a specific skill set, technical degree, and background in their business or industry,” says Rick. “This criteria is relatively easy to discover by reviewing a candidate’s resume. The challenge is to match clients and candidates that connect not only technically but equally as important, culturally. This ‘fit’ is the critical ingredient that results in candidates having careers because the client company—their employer—met their individual needs both professionally and personally.”
When an employee fully supports a company’s mission, principles, and goals and the employer can foster the worker’s professional pursuits, then the partnership benefits all stakeholders, including the community. It’s a win, win, win!
More than a Resume
Joining the Friday’s team in December 2016, Rick spent a career in Human Resources (primarily in manufacturing). Each day on the job his goals are to enjoy the journey and to remember to serve those around him with a smile and encouraging words. He says his colleagues are wonderful resources that he uses daily. He honors his personal beliefs through helpful action. “Words are cheap,” he says, “actions speak volumes.”
At Friday’s, Rick works with clients who have direct hire needs. Although he is physically located in the Asheville office, Rick works primarily with clients and candidates in Western North Carolina. “Our regional business relationships can result in work throughout the Carolinas and, in the past month, Tennessee.”
Rick wanted to share the following three pieces of advice for those searching for their next job:
- A well-written and cleanly formatted resume is crucial for a positive first impression. (Read our resume tips here.)
- Take time to prepare for an interview. Research the company; be prepared with 1–2 key questions; prepare and practice short, concise answers to likely questions
- At the conclusion of the interview, seek information about next steps in the process, timing of filling the job, when will you be notified.
Oftentimes, working interviews give companies the chance to see an applicant’s skills in action. This way, candidates can see if they like the job and employees can look at their performance. If you’re a business trying to hire the right person for your company culture, we also have some tips for you, including defining your core values before you begin recruiting and consider giving employees a working interview.
