At Friday Workforce Solutions, giving back to our community is one of our core values. Last month, our team had the opportunity to volunteer alongside members of SHRM Western North Carolina at Food Connection, an Asheville nonprofit making a tremendous impact in the fight against food insecurity throughout Western North Carolina. Our morning was spent preparing approximately 250 nutritious, heat and serve meals that were loaded onto Food Connection’s mobile food truck, FRAN, and delivered to neighbors across Asheville and surrounding communities. It was rewarding to know that just a few hours of our time would help provide healthy meals to people who needed them most.
A Mission That Goes Beyond Meals
Food Connection does much more than prepare food. The organization rescues quality surplus food that might otherwise go to waste, transforms it into fresh, nutritious meals, and delivers those meals throughout Asheville and Western North Carolina. Every meal served represents hope, dignity, and support for someone in our community. As we worked alongside their volunteers, it was easy to see the passion behind their mission and the incredible impact they make every day.
Everyone Can Make a Difference
One of the things that impressed us most is how easy Food Connection makes it to get involved. Whether you’re an individual, family, church group, civic organization, or business looking for a meaningful team-building experience, there are volunteer opportunities available throughout the month. Volunteers assist with meal preparation, food packing, food delivery routes, and community meal distributions. Every volunteer plays an important role in helping Food Connection reach more people throughout Western North Carolina.
Why Friday Workforce Solutions Volunteers
At Friday Workforce Solutions, we believe strong communities build strong businesses. Volunteering gives our team the opportunity to serve alongside organizations that are changing lives right here in our own backyard. As a company dedicated to helping people find meaningful employment, we believe supporting organizations that strengthen our community is another important way we can make a positive impact beyond the workplace. We left Food Connection inspired by the work being done and grateful for the opportunity to be a small part of it. We encourage other businesses across Asheville and Western North Carolina to consider volunteering as a team. It’s a meaningful experience that makes a real difference.
If you’re interested in getting involved, Food Connection welcomes volunteers year-round.
