The Maintenance and Reliability Manager is responsible for directing production and facility maintenance and developing maintenance plans with a strong focus on preventative measures to improve yield, uptime, and process throughputs in a beverage manufacturing plant. This role encompasses planning and executing work activities to ensure compliance with Food Safety, Quality, and Regulatory related work standards and regulations, as well as leading the individuals who install, repair, and maintain utility, facility, and production equipment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Safety and compliance: Ensure that the workplace is safe and healthy by following safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures, as well as the PSM program. Oversee the maintenance safety program and review safety records to maintain a culture of safety for all maintenance technicians and plant employees. Ensure compliance with all city, county, state, and federal regulations related to the maintenance department’s activities.

  • Communication and coordination: Communicate directly with the operations department to coordinate maintenance and repair work in all process areas. Communicate directly with the quality department to ensure that all maintenance work is performed in accordance with all plant food safety and quality policies. Communicate regularly with all maintenance technicians both individually and as a group to ensure good two-way communication concerning maintenance issues.

  • Continuous improvement: Implement programs and procedures such as Master Sanitation, 5S, and GMPs to ensure plant and work area cleanliness. Assist with the planning and implementation of all plant improvements and capital projects. Ensure that all operating and training manuals, technical prints, and software programs used by the maintenance department are up to date. Ensure the maintenance and repair of all maintenance shop equipment and tools. Track, analyze, and improve key maintenance performance indicators (KPIs) such as asset utilization, maintenance costs, PM compliance, uptime, and schedule compliance.

  • Training and development: Ensure that all maintenance technicians are trained on the most updated versions of operating procedures and receive continual technical training and education. Ensure that maintenance technicians are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.

  • Preventive maintenance: Monitor the preventive maintenance program and operations of plant equipment and systems to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve technical problems in a timely manner, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Establish and maintain a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to track work orders, spare parts, and maintenance history of plant equipment. Initiate and carry out projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs. Initiate, implement, and manage the plant maintenance program based on best practices and Lean Manufacturing techniques with an emphasis on planning/scheduling and preventive/predictive maintenance.

  • Monitor the use and inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment and ensure an adequate supply to execute maintenance programs.

  • Other duties: Prepare reports, analyze data, and make recommendations for improving plant operations and solving maintenance-related problems. Assist with the development and ongoing management of the maintenance department budget. Assist with the hiring of maintenance personnel. Participate in objective setting, plan development, and performance reviews of plant performance.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, plus 7-10 years of experience in maintenance management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • RETA certification (CARO-mandatory, CIRO-preferred).

  • Experience with overseeing the maintenance and PSM programs associated with Ammonia refrigeration systems.

  • Experience with the maintenance of utility systems including HVAC, Wastewater treatment, and Boilers.

  • Previous CMMS utilization and knowledge.

  • Knowledge of Maintenance inventory systems and accounting practices.

  • Ability to conduct Root Cause Analysis and identify sustainable corrective actions.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and/or managing an effective preventive maintenance program.

  • Maintenance budget development and management experience.

  • Ability to ensure a safe work environment and develop a culture of safety within the maintenance department.

  • Ability to develop employees and set high standards for execution to establish a culture of excellence and “First Time Right” mentality in the maintenance department.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to multi-task and handle competing priorities.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally and develop the technical knowledge and abilities of all plant employees to ensure sustainable reliability.

  • Strong time management skills.

  • Individual and team development capabilities.

  • Previous use or working knowledge of the Lean manufacturing tools, e.g., 5S, VSM, OEE, Kaizen, SICs, and Visual Factory (strongly preferred).
