Job Position: Controller

Location: Hybrid – Pisgah Forest, NC 28768 (up to 3 days a week in office)

Pay Rate: $90,000+ Based on skills and experience

Friday Services is conducting a search for a client within the outdoor recreation industry.

Role Summary:
This Controller position is a high-level financial leader capable of managing all aspects of financial strategy, reporting, and control for a growing and entrepreneurial company operating in multi-state and multi-entity environments. The Controller will oversee accounting, cash flow management, and compliance, while contributing to long-term business growth and is critical to the company’s financial health and strategic direction.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Accuracy and integrity of all company accounting records

  • Monthly reviews of balance sheets, income statements, and comparisons to prior periods and budget

  • Perform balance sheet account reconciliations, including unearned revenue and seven bank reconciliations

  • Manage the preparation and filing of state and local taxes across multiple jurisdictions

  • Prepare cash flow forecasts and monitor cash flow analysis

  • Oversee the completion of GT Overhead Rate submissions to USDA for two operations

  • Maintain fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, and capex reporting

Financial Controls

  • Strong internal financial controls to prevent fraud and ensure accuracy

  • Create and manage company budgets for various business units and consolidated entities

  • Handle petty cash and cash flow processes for Pisgah operations, ensuring communication with operations

  • Review and manage bank activity, vendor approvals, and transaction limits

  • Implement processes and manage tracking cash handling procedures and internal approvals

Tax & Compliance

  • Track taxable income, tax liabilities, and government fees

  • Supervise and lead the accounting team in ensuring compliance with GAAP, state, and federal regulations

  • Manage annual filings, tax submissions, and responses to government audits

  • Oversee insurance-related responsibilities, including workers’ compensation and driver records updates

Inventory Management

  • Calculate and record cost of goods sold for retail items on a monthly basis

  • Conduct quarterly and annual inventory counts to ensure accuracy in financial reporting

Strategic & Leadership Functions

  • Lead cross-department collaboration with operations, legal, and HR to support business growth

  • Provide strategic insights for long-term business expansion and financial decision-making

  • Manage and develop a growing finance team to support multi-state operations

  • Offer expertise in managing concession agreements and government contracts, particularly with outdoor recreation entities

Skills and Qualifications:

Essential Skills:

  • GAAP Accounting, Multi-Entity Accounting, CAPEX, Cash Flow Statements, Leadership and Management

  • Strong understanding of multi-state tax laws and government concession contracts

  • Proficiency in QuickBooks

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with ERP systems

  • Experience with Paychex payroll or HR operating systems

  • Knowledge of Square or other payment systems

  • Prior experience in concession management, real estate, or hospitality industries

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (CPA or MBA preferred)

Experience:

  • At least 10 years of accounting experience, with 5+ years in a Controller or senior financial leadership role

  • Strong background in managing multi-state operations and handling government contracts

  • Previous experience working with National Park or Forest Service contracts would be a significant advantage

  • Proven ability to be a strong leader and contribute to strategic growth
